Actually, I believe this photo is of Clematis virginiana, virgin's bower, and not sweet autumn clematis (Clematis paniculata). Clematis virginiana is native to the eastern U.S. Clematis paniculata is a noxious invasive exotic, so it's a good idea to get the I.D. right.
